Welcome. My name is D E McLean, author of Out of Time. I’m so happy to have you as a visitor to my blog about my new book. This project is very special to me, and I hope to share some of that excitement with you here.
I’ll be using this blog to interact with you about Out of Time, expanding on some of the topics in it and blogging on some of the ideas related to my book. This is a great place for you to get to know me, and I’m looking forward to getting to know you, too. What did you think of Out of Time? What questions do you have for me? How do you relate to my book?
I’ll be returning here frequently with new posts and responses to feedback from you. Until next time, tell me a little bit about yourself.

October 3, 2018 at 4:04 amI read your books excerpt and enjoyed it alot and am fascinated by Steampunk and specifically the idea of alternative histories and the possibility of ‘parallel worlds’. I was wondering if you could give me some advice on approaching this subject matter in general, from the writers perspective as I would like to write more then just an alternative history. With the idea that the real world (present day) could somehow harbour these distinct alternative histories and parallel worlds.

October 6, 2018 at 8:52 pmHi Daniel
I’m delighted to hear from you and pleased you enjoyed the excerpt. Alternative realities are obviously central to my book, but I confess I’m developing my theories as I go and something I am exploring and playing with in the sequel to Out Of Time. It’s a fascinating subject, isn’t it?
I think from a writer’s perspective, and the one I enjoy the most, is that, really, your imagination’s the limit!
Some of the ideas I am including in the sequel are ideas that answer my own questions on how my alternative reality come about, so I think it’s important to allow your ideas to incubate and develop along your own natural thought processes. Ask questions and then answer them. I know some writers create elaborate descriptions of their worlds and write down aspects of history etc, but I find I’m much more of a thinker, everything goes on inside my head, and whatever I’m dwelling on comes out in my stories.
I think living here in Thames, NZ also sparked my interest in this topic as the older parts of the town definitely feel as though you are connected to the past in a mysterious yet distinct way. Sometimes I feel as though there is a whole different reality existing along side mine and if I just pushed hard enough I could break on through.

November 6, 2018 at 10:03 amPlease do Janet. I am a little phytoplankton adrift in the large ocean of the literary world! I would be very pleased for your group to read my book and if you like it, tell others about it.
I am going to Miami next week to sign and give away 75 books, so I’m hoping to get the news out a bit more.

November 7, 2018 at 7:22 amthanks Janet. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s the first thing I’ve ever written – ever, and I found I love writing. So much so, I would be happy to be able to do it full-time. A goal for every aspiring author, I’m sure.
